RE: Come and See – Inter-Relating – Building Bridges
In this unit, we will understand that in order for bridges to be built, a person has to acknowledge wrongdoing, so as to be reconciled to others and to God. This can be formally celebrated in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We will learn what makes and breaks friendship and how friendships can be restored. We will learn about the story of The Lost Sheep.
Topic: Who were the Early Law Makers? (History)
This half term we will study crime and punishment from the Romans to the 21st Century. We will go on a school trip to the Manchester Police Museum. We will study the famous Highwayman, Dick Turpin.
Literacy:
In literacy, we will write a narrative based on an expedition to Mount Everest. We will write an explanation text and participate in some performance poetry.
Reading:
Guided reading will take place on Wednesday for all groups. Home reading books and library books will be changed on a Thursday. We ask that, in year 4, children are reading most nights. This could be a novel, comic, newspaper or their school reading book.
Maths:
In maths, we will recap some of the learning we have done over the past year. We will focus on: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, statistics and tables/graphs, place value and word problems.
Spellings will be given on a Friday to be learnt for the following Thursday. It is crucial your child learns their spellings as it accounts for 20% of their SPAG SATS test in year 6.
Spellings:
Spellings will be given on Friday to be learnt for the following Friday. It is crucial your child learns their spellings as their ability to spell is a crucial aspect of effective written English
PE:
PE will be on a Thursday and we have swimming on a Friday. Please ensure your child has the correct kit (yellow top, black shorts and pumps) and correct swimming kit. Children can bring in an outdoor PE kit which consists of track suit bottoms and trainers. Please note: They will ONLY be allowed to wear this if they are going outdoors so they MUST also have their indoor PE kit in school AT ALL TIMES.
Thank you for your help and support.
