Summer 1 - Newsletter for Parents

RE - The Early Christians

This term, we will:

  • Have the opportunity to know that Jesus made Peter head of the Church.
  • Have the opportunity to know that the Church began at Pentecost.
  • Have the opportunity to know what happened to Stephen and Saul.
  • Have the opportunity to know about the challenges of being an apostle.
  • Have an opportunity to know about Paul’s missionary journeys

Topic: Why is Manchester such a cool place to live? (Geography).

This half term, we will name and locate counties and cities of the United Kingdom, geographical regions and their identifying human and physical characteristics, including hills, mountains, cities, rivers, key topographical features and land use patterns; and understand how some of these aspects have changed over time.

What living things thrive in your locality? (Science – Living things and their habitats)

In science, we will be learning to recognise that living things can be grouped in a variety of ways; we will explore and use classification keys to help group, identify and name a variety of living things in their local and wider environment; we will learn to recognise that environments can change and that this can sometimes pose dangers to living things.

English:

In English, we will be writing our own science fiction narratives. We will be focusing on using direct speech in our writing. We will also write a newspaper report based on an alien invasion.

Reading:

Guided reading will take place on Monday for all groups. Home reading books and library books will be changed on a Thursday. We ask that, in year 4, children are reading most nights. This could be a novel, comic, newspaper or their school reading book.

Maths:

In maths, our focus will be on 2d shape; classifying triangles and quadrilaterals; symmetry and identifying angles.

Spellings:

Spellings will be given on Friday to be learnt for the following Friday. It is crucial your child learns their spellings as their ability to spell is a crucial aspect of effective written English

PE:

PE will be on a Monday and we have swimming on a Friday. Please ensure your child has the correct kit (yellow top, black shorts and pumps) and correct swimming kit. Children can bring in an outdoor PE kit which consists of track suit bottoms and trainers. Please note: They will ONLY be allowed to wear this if they are going outdoors so they MUST also have their indoor PE kit in school AT ALL TIMES.

Thank you for your help and support.
