What we are covering in Spring 1 in Year 3.

Please see attached Parent/Carer newsletter for Spring 1:

Topic

If you would like to learn a little more about magnets and forces, here is a link to a fantastic online learning tool:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/science/physical_processes/magnet_springs/read/1/

I have also attached below a reading list, maybe you could to your local library and look for these books. It would really help the children in year 3 to invest even more into our new topic...

Maths

In this half term we will be covering:

Column addition and subtraction

Fractions

Reading Scales

Reading and Interpreting data

...amongst many other things. In Year 3 we have Thursday and Friday reasoning days. On these days we will be solving problems and reasoning applying the skills that we have learnt earlier in the week to solve trickier problems. :)

English

In English this half term we will be emersing ourselves in a fantastic book; The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. This is a fantastic modern fairytale that I'm sure will enchant the children and open up their imaginations. This is the story of a huge metal man who comes from nowhere and terrifies the people of the Earth - and the one little boy who tries to understand him. Using this book we will be planning and contructing our own newspaper reports, writing persuasive letters, writing diary entries from the perspective of the characters in the story and annotating images.

We would also like to build junk model iron men. If you could please save and send into school any old butter dishes, tubs, toilet rolls, old CDs, anything that you think would help in the construction of our very own iron men, that would be very much appreciated.
