Welcome to Year 2 Class page

Winter Olympics Assembly March 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back, I hope you have all had a lovely holiday and the children are raring and ready to go!

We have a busy yet fun half term planned in Year two.

In Literacy, we will be reading a book called Claude in the City. Children will have the opportunity to write poems, character descriptions and stories about Claude’s adventures. There will be a focus on punctuation and presentation.

The numeracy focus will be number facts and counting, money and time, length, position and direction.  Children will be taking part in a going for gold times table challenge this half term. Children are expected to know there x2, x3, x5 and x10 tables by the end of Year 2.

Our topic title is - Where do I live?  Children will learn how to use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the immediate environment. We will be exploring the local area and children will learn about road safety.

Children have PE every Tuesday and Friday. A full PE kit MUST be in school at all times; yellow t-shirt, black shorts and pumps.  This half term, the children will take part in Multi skills and Gymnastics.

Homework will be given out on a Thursday and should be back in on the following Tuesday. Spellings for this half term have been given out, there are also a copy in the pink homework book and are on the website on the year two class pages.

Guided Reading is every Tuesday and your child will have the opportunity to change their library book. Please comment in your child’s homework diary when you have listened to them read.  Children should bring their homework diaries into school every day and must be signed weekly.

Children need their reading book and diary in school every day.

Please could you make sure your child is wearing their Rainbow Badge everyday as they are an essential part of the schools behaviour policy.  Also, could you remind your child about the Golden Rules: We will do as our teachers tells us. We will not hurt anyone by anything we say or do. We will take care of other people’s things.

We appreciate your co-operation, as we feel it’s important that both home and school work together in order to give your child the best possible education.

Also, if you ever have any comments, questions or concerns, we are available for phone calls and meetings (by appointment please) each day before and after school.

Many Thanks,

Miss Humphreys and Mrs Gore
