Welcome to Year Two

Information for Parents

Dear Parents,

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves and express our excitement about working with your child this year.

Mrs Pearson will be working Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Mrs Hughes Thursday and Friday.

Topic: What would Dory find exciting about Oldham?

Over the next half term we will be learning about the local area. Children will learn how to use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the immediate environment.

Science: What is our school made out of?

Our science topic is Materials. Children will learn to identify and compare the suitability of a variety of every day materials including wood, metal, plastic, glass etc.

Literacy: Stories with familiar settings, songs and repetitive poems

Our grammar focus for this half term will be creating different types of sentences, i.e. statement, question, command. We will also be learning how to use punctuation correctly.

Numeracy: Place value and sequencing, number facts, time, Money, Length, position and direction

PE: multi skills, throwing and catching.

Children have PE every Monday and Tuesday. A full PE kit MUST be in school at all times; yellow t-shirt, black shorts and pumps.

Spellings tests are every Friday. Children will have a week to learn their spellings. A full list of spellings for the half term will be given to your child. Homework will be given out on a Thursday and should be in for a Monday. Children may have their Rainbow badges taken away if not handed in on time.

Guided Reading is every Thursday and your child will have the opportunity to change their home reading book.  Please comment in your child’s homework diary when you have listened to them read.  Children should bring their homework diaries into school every day and must be signed weekly. This year we will match home reading books to your childs reading age.

Please could you make sure your child is wearing their Rainbow Badge everyday as they are an essential part of the schools behaviour policy. Also, could you remind your child about the Golden Rules: We will do as our teachers tell us. We will not hurt anyone by anything we say or do. We will take care of other people’s things.

We appreciate your co-operation, as we feel it’s important that both home and school work together in order to give your child the best possible education.

Also note that if you ever have any comments, questions or concerns, we are available for phone calls and meetings (by appointment please) each day before and after school.

Thankyou

Mrs Pearson and Mrs Hughes

Topic/Computing

WALT: Know how to programme a Beebot to follow a route.

We took it in turns to programme the Beebot to follow a route around the map. We used positional and directional language which we had learned in Numeracy, and used logical thinking to plan the easiest route. We had lots of fun watching the Beebot go the right way!

We had a special visitor who came to visit our classroom. We had to prepare some questions to ask Miss Cadman to find out all about Oldham. Then we used the information to write a text about Oldham in Literacy.
